Program

The Financial Risk Masterclass takes place via Zoom on every last Thursday of month at 13:00 hrs. The lecture lasts an hour and covers a presentation on the hot topic, the experiences of our colleagues and the possibility to ask questions.  The details of the first masterclass are listed below.

Thursday April 30, 13:00 – 14:00 hrs:                      Europe’s insurance risk management framework.

Solvency II is the European regulatory framework for the insurance industry. It prescribes how insurers should determine their reserves and required capital. The Solvency II legislation is currently being reviewed and insurers are looking out to learn the impact on their businesses and balance sheet. Meanwhile, Solvency II is aimed to provide buffers against impacts of tail events such as the current COVID-19 situation. During the first Masterclass, you will learn about Solvency II, the topics under review and we will investigate if the current legislation provides adequate reserves against current events.

Thursday May 28, 13:00 – 14:00 hrs:                      Credit quality during shocks

Banks are known to hold extra capital (i.e. capital requirements) as a safety net dependent on the quality of the loans they extent to its customers. Recently, banks have been allowed by financial authorities to provide time-extensions on repayment responsibilities in order to alleviate borrowers disrupted by COVID-19. Meanwhile, these extensions, also known as payment holidays, are raising a lot of questions on the underlying mechanisms that should be considered when assessing the quality of loans given the current circumstances. During this Masterclass we will discuss the impact of these payment extensions on banks.

Thursday June 25, 13:00 – 14:00 hrs:                     Impact of COVID-19 on the Credit Risk world

More details will be announced later
